In summer reading books on winter sports seem particularly
appealing: skating, skiing, curling, etc., all reek of cold, frosty
days - anticipation of which makes sweltering temperatures a little
more bearable! In winter the appeal is more one of anticipation:
waiting for just the right weather conditions in which to participate

(especially gilt decoration) and lightly spotted on spine, covers still
bright; ends creased and corners rubbed with minor loss at tail.
Bookseller's label on front pastedown; front hinge cracked, yet strong;
lower half of text a bit rippled, and faintly dampstained near front;
minor foxing.
A very good
copy.
Skating comprises first 323 pages, with other sports filling an additional 120 pp.; profusely illustrated with skating diagrams, elegant 19th-century figure skaters, racers and racecourses, equipment (skates, curling-stones, toboggans, sails, etc.), and instructional diagrams.$45

Book Club, 1960. A fine copy in original bright blue cloth lettered
in gilt on spine, in publisher's glassine. An excellent history of the
sport, from the earliest known skates to modern figure-skating and
ice-dancing competitions and shows; illustrated with photographs of
early to mid 20th century champions, as well as historical images.

Daye Press, 1935. [First edition]. Original blue cloth, lettered in
black on spine. Plain putty-coloured dust jacket letered in red and
blue (caption: "Increase your SPEED by using your HEAD"); unsightly
2" browned glass-ring stain on front panel (virtually invisible on
front cover); top edge creased resulting in short closed tears and
1/4" chip lacking across head of spine; light loss to corners; some
light soiling. A very good copy.
