Charles Dickens visited North America on two occasions - first in 1842, which included a visit to Montreal, then in 1867-68. During his second visit an ailing Dickens toured the eastern United States performing 76 shows, each a live recitation of a specially edited version of one of his more popular works, including A Christmas Carol. Audiences, already familiar with the stories, loved his readings, which were filled with dramatic gestures, richly accented voices and vivid imagery.

We are pleased to welcome John D. Huston to Montreal to reprise his highly acclaimed
performance as Charles Dickens. In this one-man show, A Christmas Carol is performed as you have never seen it before, as Dickens himself performed it almost a century and a half ago! Huston's every word, gesture, and movement will make you believe you are watching the great Victorian author himself, as he appeared during his second North American tour. |

Based on Dickens's specially edited script, Huston gives a lively and authentic
performance. Every character comes to life with his or her own voice;
each scene is woven out of the author's own words. The beloved story
grows from the interplay of Dickens's richly-crafted text, Huston's bravura
performance and your own imagination. Huston's website quotes dozens of rave reviews from his nationwide Christmas season tours including: -- "A Christmas Carol is powerful one-man theatre ... in the hands of a master storyteller." The National Post -- "Absolutely fabulous ... brings the work to life, reproducing ... all of the characters" CBC Radio Ottawa
